The AABA was organized February 16, 1985 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Rose Edwards of Yesterday’s Books in Hot Springs; Bill Caldwell of Arkadelphia; Myra Moran of Trolley Line Books; Mayrene Nelms of Fort Smith and Floyd Jackson, bookbinder and book dealer of Hot Springs were the organizing members, with Rose Edwards the first President.
The group initially met quarterly in various parts of the state. The first statewide book fair was held in Hot Springs in November of 1986. The Arlington Hotel was the location with 12 dealers participating. Former Governor Orval Faubus sold autographed copies of his books at this show. The show was moved to the Scottish Rite Temple in Little Rock in 1988. It was held at the Ricks Armory in 1990; and was heldat the North Little Rock Library in 1991.
It was moved to the Robinson Auditorium in 1992 with Maggie and Josh Page of Page Books, Directors. Jim Rule and Anna Cox of Rule's Fine Books became directors in 1997. Jeff Baskin, representing the North Little Rock Library, was director from 2002 to 2004. Ed & Jeri Myrick became directors in 2005 and moved the Show to Jacksonville because of the outstanding facilities, easy access, and free parking. In August of 2007, the 22st annual Book & Paper Show was held at the Community Center in Jacksonville, Arkansas. There were 38 dealers participating; plus there were 16 Authors present, selling and autographing their books.
The August, 2008, Show was equally successful, with approximately the same number participating.
